Union Street Attic Fire

Approximately 3:30 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2009, the Lodi Fire Department was dispatched to 202 Union Street for reports of smoke coming from the roof. Assistant Fire Chief Maiolo arrived on scene and established command, later transferring command to Chief Greg Telep. As conditions on the third floor began to deteriorate, Lodi’s first due engine company made an aggressive attack through a narrow, winding staircase into the attic. Assistant Fire Chief Maiolo oversaw the attack as Fire Operations.

Upon seeing the worsening conditions, Command then requested a ladder truck from Hasbrouck Heights, an engine from Saddle Brook and later the U.S.A.R. truck from Hackensack for cascade.

Once the fire attack was commenced, the smoke and fire conditions rapidly began to improve. Proper vertical and horizontal ventilation aided the attack and fire operations ended in under 40 minutes.

No injuries were reported and the fire is still under investigation.
