House Fire at 70 James Street

At approximately 12:45 AM on March 11, The Lodi Fire Department was dispatched for a working house fire at 70 James Street. The Police Department was on scene and reported heavy fire. Chief Telep and Assistant Chief Matt Lombardi arrived on scene and command was established. A second alarm was immediately dispatched due to heavy volumes of smoke and flame. Mutual aid towns included Saddle Brook, Garfield, Elmwood Park, Maywood, Rochelle Park, Wallington, Wood Ridge and Little Ferry.

Firefighters were met with heavy fire on all three floors. Crews advanced two lines, both small and large diameter, to each floor. The fire was brought under control at approximately 3:30 AM. The construction style of the building hampered the fire attack.

A rekindle occurred at 7:20 AM due to the building’s construction, which contained many void spaces.
