On Friday August 24th at approximated 15:00 hours the Lodi FD FOAM Team was requested to Route 17 North in Hasbrouck Heights for a mutual aid call for a tanker accident.
Foam 616, Engine 615 Chief F-1 and Chief F-3 responded. Upon arrival the 8000 gallon tanker was fully loaded with gasoline and was disconnected from its tractor. The weight of the product caused the landing gear of the trailer to fail causing it to fall forward.
The Lodi FD Foam Team along with the members of the Hasbrouck Heights FD provided protective handlines for gasoline vapors while 2 |
Lodi FD Hazmat Technicians and 2 Bergen County Hazmat Technicians prepared to offload the product from one tanker to another.
The members of all organizations involved did a great job at keeping the situation a “non-incident”. The 8000 gallons of fuel was transferred from the collapsed tanker to the good one with no fuel leak.
Due to the extremely hot and humid weather Chief F-1 dispatched Lodi EMS Rehab 4 to respond to the scene. All companies were up and available at 21:30 hours, 6 and a half hours after the initial dispatch.
