maltese cross House Fire - 260 Grove St. - 10/22/2006

At 10:56 am on Sunday, October 22 2006, the Lodi Fire Department was dispatched on a general alarm assignment for a reported house fire at 260 Grove St. Upon arrival there was heavy fire emanating from the first floor windows on the c & d side of the 1 ½ story wood frame dwelling.

Members made an aggressive interior structural attack and knocked most of the fire down on the first fl, however there was extension to the attic

via auto-exposure. Interior crews had great difficulty locating the interior stairs that led to the attic due to heavy fire smoke and heat conditions on the first floor. Crews were subsequently ordered out of the building because of a potential roof collapse due to the heavy fire conditions in the attic with no way to fight it from the inside. The fire was deemed under control after one hour and 15 minutes into the job. One firefighter was transported for minor burns he received during the initial interior attack. The fire remains under investigation by the Lodi Fire Prevention Bureau at this time.

Lodi received mutual aid from Wallington Fire Department (fast team) Garfield Fire Department (2nd due truck) Saddle Brook Fire Department (cascade unit) Rochelle Park engine and Maywood ladder cover up at fire headquarters. Lodi EMS and Lodi EMS Fire Rehab Unit responded to the scene as well.
