maltese cross Lightning Strike at 180 South Main - 07/21/06

At 9:30 a.m., amidst heavy rainfall and violent thunder, lightning struck the chimney of 180 South Main Street, blowing it apart into the street. Upon arrival, there were reports of a light smokey condition coming from the roof.

A crew was sent into the building an discovered a hole in the ceiling with insulation burning inside. A water can and pike pole was used to over haul the ceiling to find the hot spots but the water can was not enough so a hand line was stretched.

A ladder was set up to the roof to clear the debris from the chimney that the lightning has struck and to check for other hot spots using a thermal imaging camera.

Salvage covers were used in the apartment upstairs to protect it from falling debris and water damage.
